The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka was established
on 7 May 1921 according to the recommendation of Sadler Commission.
Intermediate colleges and high schools in Dhaka city and Islamic
intermediate colleges and high madrasah of greater Bengal were under
control of that board. An advisory board made by the director of public
education department of greater Bengal was given the authority to govern
the board.
The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka is an
autonomous organization, mainly responsible for holding two public
examinations (SSC & HSC) and for providing recognition to the newly
established non-govt. educational institution and also for the
supervision, control and developments of those institutions.

Board
of Intermediate Education Karachi was established as separate entity
in 1974 through the "Sindh Boards of Intermediate and Secondary
Education amendment act No. 20 of 1973.
This
Board has the power to organize, regulate, develop and control Intermediate
Education. The controlling Authority of the Board is the Governor
of Sindh or his nominee. The Chairman is the principal executive
and academic officer of the Board, while the Secretary is the in
charge of the academic and administrative Sector and the Controller
of Examinations is the In charge of the Examination Section. The
above officers and the Audit officer are appointed by the Controlling
Authority of the Board, while other officers are also appointed
by the Board on the recommendation of the appointment Committee.
In the year, 1974, there were only 17 officers and 113 officials,
now we have 51 officers and 246 officials. With a view to performing
various functions systematically there are Statutory and non-Statutory

Due to increase in work load on matric section, the conduct section has been divided into two separate sections. Conduct 1 to deal with matric and conduct 2 to deal with intermediate. A printing section has also been created for printing of question papers.
The Board is governed by a Calendar based on NWFP BISE Act 1990. The act along with regulations and rules provide a complete compendium of instructions for running the Board. Within the parameters laid down by this act, the Board makes rules and regulations for its running. In addition the Controlling Authority also has the powers to provide directions to the Board to regulate any activity.
Five districts, namely Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram and Kohistan. This encompasses an area of 17,194 square kilometres and a population of 3.47 millions.
a. Government schools, including Higher Secondary Schools and colleges, Tehsil-wise, both male and female.
b. Private Schools, male and female, Tehsil-wise.
c. Private Colleges, male and female, Tehsil-wise.
Summary of institutions affiliated with the Board.
All students of 9 th and 11 th class are required to be registered with the Board. The student population here is that of registered students. In our Board area, however, a very large private student population is also there, whose examination requirements are also met by the Board. Abbotabad Board
